A fruit and vegetable stand. One of the many at St Jacobs Farmers' Market (Ontario). This one is attended to by a young Mennonite girl. Apparently, judging by their number, the farms in this part of Ontario are owned by these kindly folks.

Durian
www.singapedia.com.sg/entries/d/durians.html
""In The Malay Archipelago (1869), the great naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace described the flavour of the fruit in these terms: ‘A rich butter- like custard highly flavoured with almonds gives the best general idea of it, but intermingled with it comes wafts of flavour that call to mind cream- cheese, onion- sauce, brown sherry, and other incongruities. Then there is a rich glutinous smoothness in the pulp which nothing else possesses, but which adds to its delicacy. It is neither acid, nor sweet, nor juicy, yet one feels the want of none of these qualities, for it is perfect as it is. It produces no nausea, or other bad effect, and the more you eat of it, the less you feel inclined to stop. In fact, to eat durians is a new sensation, worth a voyage to the east to experience.’
The durian is also noted for its strong, pungent odour, compared variously to that of an open sewer or rotten onions. The smell tends to put off people who have not grown up with it. As Wallace noted: ‘When brought into a house the smell is often so offensive that some persons can never bear to taste it.’ The durian is banned from the carriages of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and many other public places."""

Huế Market
Huế Market
The Market in Huế was personally conflicting...
On one hand, there was cheap silk, fresh fruit, meat & snacks, discounted merchandise (as in: disappeared out the back door at the local factory!!) shoes, jewelry, arts and crafts. On the other hand: rampant poverty, illness, war survivors, and amputee children.
It was hard to get into the shopping mood when you're constantly forced to reconsider the necessity of what you're buying.
...That being said, we walked out of the Huế market with silk shirts, scarves, robes, kimonos and a big bag of what cathy describes as buddha fruit!
Shortly after leaving the market, we consumed several 10,000 VND beers and ate some spring rolls to lighten the mood.

On the road to Haridwar - India
Please don't ask me about the colour of the carrots. They're much redder and darker than we're used in Europe or America, probably went through some kind of graft with beets.
Por favor no me pregunteis por el color de las zanahorias (=cenouras). En la India son mucho más rojas y oscuras de lo que las de Europa o América, probablemente debido a algun cruzamiento con remolacha (=beterraba).

Made this one with IMosaic (http://www.imosaic.net/) great program. It took about 8 hour to be completed but it was worth it, I loaded a +20000 photo database to it, that might explain the long render time... You'll need to see the original size to appreciate all detail

A Weeks worth of groceries. part 1
So this week I went to the Farmer's market by myself to get groceries, I had been waiting for peaches to be in season and today it finally came I got a whole basket for $3 the seller let me sample a whole one before I bought them, they are divine. There also was a seller with portabella mushrooms which is a rare commodity at the farmer's market here so I snatched those up for only $1 that's a steal they try to sell them for $4 at publix. I'm happy about this lot, my first time getting bok choy for a meal this week, and the lemons were also a steal, I never realized lemons were such an expensive citrus. Only $30 spent

Food...Anyone?
The photo of this old woman was taken inside a market in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. With her long neck, she reminds me of members of a certain tribe also in the Indochina area. I'm not sure if she does belong to that group of people.

Tomatoes
Local Tomatoes. Almost all of the food for sale is grown or raised within 30 miles from the Greensboro Curb Market and most area farmers markets. That means very fresh food and less environmental impact. Greensboro, North Carolina USA.

American Heritage Dictionary describes Strawberry as, any of various low-growing plants of the genus Fragaria, having white flowers and an aggregate fruit that consists of a red fleshy edible receptacle and numerous seedlike fruitlets.
- The aggregate fruit of this plant.
This photo was taken during my trip to La Trinidad, Benguet (Philippines).

Casa de Pumpkin
Located along the Pacheco Pass between Gilroy and Los Banos in north-central California, Casa de Fruta is a surreal fantasy-land always worth stopping for. What started out as a roadside fruit stand nearly 100 years ago on a small two lane highway in the middle of nowhere has grown out of control.
Now the fruit stand is bigger than many grocery stores. Next to the fruit stand is the Casa de Gifts gift-shop (souvenirs of your visit to a fruit stand?). Next to that is the 24hr Casa de Restaurant diner. Behind that is the huge Case de Wine store (and they make their own wine too!), and inside that is the Casa de Deli.
Behind that - there is the Casa de Sweets serving ice cream and candy and more. Inside Casa de Sweets you can buy tickets to ride the Casa de Carousel (imported from Italy), or the miniature Casa de Choo-Choo, which circles the property - passing through the playground and the park (Casa de Park?). It also takes you through the buffalo paddock, and past various other animals.
Also present in the Casa de Complex is the Casa de Diesel 24/hr gas station, as well as the Casa de Inn hotel, and of course - the Casa de RV Park and Festival Grounds.
There is also a big giant teepee and a pumpkin patch, of course.
Weird, and wonderful. I imagine the fruit must be pretty good too.
