India, a big familly

Selling vegetables near the main ghat of Benares. Everything is always on the floor… and see the balance.

The woman is cutting ginger for a busy neighbour. Of course, they all know each other, Indian people considere themselves as part of a big familly. When they say the land is holy, it's not just a word, they make it real. Everybody calls everybody "didi" "sister", or bhaya "brother", or if elder" chacha" oncle," maya" or mata ji, mother, or more elder "dada" grand-father… Yes, they are a big familly for real, that's how I felt when living in Benares for a few years. And it feels so good !

To day a little bit of the other side…
This is near Dasashwamedh, the main ghat of Benares. They are selling vegetables, simply waiting for customer
What you see, I must say, is a very very common sigtht in India.
Background is not nice, but the point was not to get a beautiful picture. That's how it looks when going down to one of the most holy place of Benares, and it's just fine.

I just like hanging around the market place, always so alive and tranquille at the same time. Passers-by are on the move, sellers are waiting customers, carrier carries the staff they have to deliver… Start making photo, and all the workers will try to attract you to be on the snap.

One must click before the turbulence of his presence burst out. Well, there was may be more turbulence in Bidar market than in any other. I went back there many times to try a catch.

Varanasi - Dasashwamedh.

In India fruit is a luxuary item not everybody can afford. Most people are leaving in joint family system, with means a kilo or two would be necessary. And it's about the price of 3 to ten kilos of rice… In daily life, fruits are bought in small quantity for offering to the gods, than everyvody would get a slice of it, as sanctified food or prashad. It is appreciated as an utmost delicacy, a gift from the gods.
