0709C02 Farmer's Market
This farmer's market was along the highway south of Hilo on the island of Hawaii. I like the colors, but I wish I had focused on something. Maybe I thought it was set to auto focus.

Market Square Hall
At the heart of Nottingham, Old Market Square is key to what defines the city. It is the central meeting point that everybody knows. It is where we hang out with a sandwich and a mate at lunchtime, it is where the citizens of Nottingham gather to celebrate and protest.
And it was (still being) under construction, improvements, when we visited it. :(
Of course, Best Viewed Large ;D

Water Melon sold in streets of Chennai
They make signs large and inviting. Tell you a simple story plainly. Have a great price and say it large. They have interesting products; present a big picture of it on a sign so people can see it from a distance. For most vendors, products are more important advertised on signs than a business name. So there are usually no sign boards.
And so they are friendly people who invite conversation. Strike up conversations with them. Ask them how they feel about long hours outside and find out why they like doing what they are doing.
What they earn depends on determination, mark-up, and the popularity of what they sell. They work hard and smart, but remember: many of New York's biggest stores started with individual proprietors who were street-cart merchants.

A watermelon street shop at Adyar- Chennai
Selling on the street is fun and Chennai's streets are the perfect place for people to test their selling skills that make an impact. Many Americans, unlike people from the Middle East, the Mediterranean countries, Asia, India, Pakistan, China, and Africa, are not used to the idea participating in face-to-face bazaars or trading, to them this is unusual.
Historically, it is at the bazaar (a street stalls) where fortunes are made and family specialties are formed. Many of these specialties become family crafts, with tips and techniques past down through generations. The bazaar is always a colourful place, filled with creative people who vie for your attention.
To most street-sellers their talent, ideas, energy, enthusiasm, and craftsmanship runs high. Generally, the people who sell at street shops or stalls rely upon themselves (rather than on employers) to make a living. This couple make a reasonably good living selling seasonal fruits here in Adyar just opposite Runs hotel and adjacent to a bus stand.

Archanai Thatu Seller
This lady sells all the things that are used to perform a pooja.
A typical Archanai (a ritual) Thatu (means plate and in this context a small basket or tray) contains a. one or two coconuts, b. Fruits-usually banana, c. Flowers, d. beetle leaf and nuts and e. camphor for arathi.
The gurukal (priest) usually performs the pooja (ritual or prayer). And the temple usually has all the material required for a basic pooja. Due to the sheer number of people that come by to a temple and perform these pooja’s, the temple runs out of material. It’s a standard practice these days to get your own pooja material before getting your special pooja done at the temple. You can buy a basket and leave your footwear with the archanai thatu seller.
Over so many years our family knows this women and her daughter

These are fresh King Coconuts - an absolutely delicious drink when you are on a motorbike in Sri Lanka, as I was.
I am sure coconut has many healing properties - and the Sri Lankans make delicious dishes using it, including the "national dish" of pol sambol e.g. www.netcooks.com/recipes/Salads/Pol.Sambol.html
Just thinking about it is making me hungry!

Hi Scratch - they are the local pineapple, halved. They cut pattern around the outside to get rid of all the tough bark/skin...on the top shelf you have mango and melon pickles - something Mauritians seem to go for in a big way...
